A parent's perpetual renewal
01 March, 2025
Being a parent means living in a perpetual state of renewal. It's no wonder it can feel exhausting! Our children grow and change, and we constantly have to reinvent our approaches to support them as best we can. This month, I wanted to explore with you this subtle dance between stability and change, between tradition and innovation.
With 7 children in my care, I've lived through tons of changes that forced me to renew my approach regularly. The routine that worked perfectly for a while with Raoul suddenly became a source of tension. My older kids' easy naptime, a sacred moment, needed a complete reinvention when Marie arrived. Meals my kids used to love were suddenly shunned because of the repetition. These everyday challenges have always led me to renew myself, to rethink my strategies, to adapt.
But this renewal isn't only a response to our children's changes. It's also an opportunity to grow together, to try new methods that may turn out to suit us better, to create healthier, fairer family dynamics. When we reassess how chores are divided, when we rethink our digital organization, when we question our consumption habits, we are actively building the framework in which our children will thrive.
Independence, a recurring theme this month (and of Belles Combines content in general), perfectly illustrates this need for renewal. Supporting our children toward greater independence requires us to constantly adjust our stance: being present without being overbearing, guiding without controlling, letting go while remaining a safety net. It's a balancing act that calls for ongoing questioning of our practices.
This month, we invite you to explore together the many facets of parental renewal. From reorganizing your living space to redefining how you communicate with your teens, by way of reinventing your food routines, each article offers concrete ideas to embrace change with serenity.
Because at its core, renewal is less a destination than a state of mind. It's this ability to stay flexible, to adapt, to grow alongside our children. It's accepting that yesterday's methods may no longer be relevant tomorrow, and that's just fine. In this constant flow of change, our role as parents evolves, transforms, renews itself.
So this month, let's take the time to look at our practices with fresh eyes. Let's question our habits, dare to make the necessary adjustments, and above all, celebrate this ability to adapt that makes us parents in constant evolution.
Because after all, the most beautiful gift we can give our children may well be this readiness for renewal, this flexibility in the face of change, this ability to grow together, day after day.
